It’s not freaky. It’s dignified. Even though they have no way of communicating with verbally with most people, I still go through all of the diagnostic steps any other doctor would. And sure, I don’t treat them, but I provide a service to the family and society as a whole. 

Ah. Cause the way you said it, it sounded like you were going for something else.

Didn’t say your job was unnecessary, just that it’s weird to call someone who’s dead a patient when to me that usually means someone who’s alive still. Guess it’s nicer than saying corpses or bodies but at the end of the day… I suppose that makes me not “dignified.”
